Set your long term goals, smash them, repeat.

Setting long term goals are like paving a way to your success and building the future you want. Those goals are a way to work toward your dreams while giving you direction and purpose. What are the benefits to setting your own long term goals? How do you begin to identify what your long term goals are? Once you identify your goals, how do you reach them? Below are the keys to paving your own way to success.

Goal without a plan is just a wish

The time is now, be brave enough to make new choices for yourself. Where do you want to be in 1, maybe 5 years? Those answers can be anything from getting a promotion at work, becoming an entrepreneur, getting a degree, purchasing a new car, having more time to yourself, paying off credit cards, improving your diet or being able to run a marathon. Whatever your future looks like, you will notice goals you want to reach if you take some time to reflect your values. Set goals that are aligned with what is important to you. Envision the life you want for yourself and write it down (I'll tell you to do that a lot). Writing down anything that you want to manifest out of your life is a great way to bring those wishes to life. I always have a list of goals I want to create both personally and professionally, they are written down in a little book in my desk and I look back at them frequently to assess where I am at with reaching those goals and what I need to do to move closer to reaching them. It keeps me motivated to always work to becoming the best version of myself and growing my business.

Goals List

Once you have identified your goals, its time to think about how you are going to reach them. I break my big goals down into smaller steps to help keep me motivated and on track since long term goals take time and sustained efforts to reach, which can be de-motivating. One of my 5 year plans is to open a second business. Not sure what that looks like yet whether it will be another tax office or a different business, but I recognized that I have a lot of little changes to make with my current business to get there and am actively working on them. Personally I have set fitness goals for myself, and so far this summer I have gotten outside for walks and spent some time at the gym to get myself moving, and worked towards meal planning and eating healthier in general.

Look back at your goals to track your progress and make tweaks to the plans along the way if needed, time changes some things and that's okay! I was set to graduate university by July and was about to start my LAST semester when a life event changed that. I was so excited to be done and now I will not have my degree until end of December, it sucks but I am keeping that finish line in my sights and my mantra is "I will complete university, I am almost there, I will complete university, I'm almost there". Overcoming challenges along the way just make achieving those goals so much sweeter!

Lastly, and probably the most important aspect for me when it comes to manifesting long term goals, don't speak about them as your working toward them! Yes...I said that.

Speaking about your long term goals as if you have already reached them or speaking about them a lot gives you a feeling of satisfaction, and tricks your mind into thinking you have already reached that goal, actually decreasing your chances of reaching your goals! Keep your moves private and don't share until you have achieved that goal or those important milestones along the way, or make sure to speak about them in a way that won't give you instant satisfaction.

Now you are ready to get out there and crush your own goals! To help you get started and keep you on track you will find a PDF below that will help you map out your long term goals and keep you on track! Happy goal reaching!
